Star Wars Battlefront II Review

I own the PS2 version and I bought this so that I could play SWB2 on the go. I was wrong. The controls sucked; I could never remember the buttons. (Maybe there was a better control scheme option available, but I always use default on EVERYTHING.) There was little over half of the maps that the PS2 version had. I understand that a UMD can only hold so much, but seriously! The SPECIAL MISSIONS exclusively for PSP: easier than pie! I could almost do it blindfolded! These could be taken out and add in some more maps maybe. Space was even more of a hassle; with less buttons than the PS2 controller I could not remember the difference between landing and primary cannons! I simply did not like this game. One more thing: Good luck getting all the medals!

I recommend getting SWB: Renegade Squadron instead. The multiplayer option is awesome!Get more detail about Star Wars Battlefront II.

SAW Immediately

I am just going to come out and say it, I am a saw fan, like a really big saw fan. So when I heard that they were making a game, I couldn't wait and I think the wait was worth it. Now before I continue you should know that this is not a game to revolutionize games, its just a really fun puzzle game. Let's start with the puzzles.
The puzzles are of a good variety from manipulating rooms to find the combination, manipulating your perspective so you know which way to go, and pretty much all of the traps that you have come to love from the saw movies. Some of these will challenge you, and actually make you think, because you will have to really change the way you look at some of these puzzles in order to finish them.
Another part is the combat. Now its not the best set up, but you get used to it. The character does hit a little slow, but that did not stop me from finishing it. You will use weapons from the nail bat, shovel, scalpel, and a revolver. Also you will find schematics in order to create traps, you can also disarm and rearm the shotgun trip wire traps for anyone that might be following you. I will say that you will be picking locks, setting fuses, and shutting off gas pipes a good amount. This is the repetitive part of the game, but its not that bad.
I should mention that this is probably a game for saw fans only. That is because unless you like the story, characters, and all around saw atmosphere, you might not be able to get past the less then perfect combat or some of the repetitive puzzles. But I will tell you why you should give it a try anyway. One is the length, this is one of the few games with a good length in the campaign so you will not be done in like three hours. Another reason is the trophies, if you are looking for trophies then this is your game. I finished the game today and only needed one more trophy before a platinum. So even if the saw movies aren't you thing, go out and try this game because you will never know until you try it.Get more detail about SAW.

Ben 10 - The Complete Season 1 Get it now!

My 6 year-old son recently started watching Ben 10 on television. I'm not a huge TV fan - with all the commercials and all, so I decided to get him the DVD so he could watch the shows without the interruption and also so he could see the show from the very beginning.

Need I say he LOVES it. He's watched it over and over again. I also just picked up Season 2. BTW, the price can't be beat.Get more detail about Ben 10 - The Complete Season 1.

I have about 35 PSP games and this is far and away the one I play the most. Most of the reimagined/updated games are really fun (New Pac-Man, for example, adds a bunch of fun features and I can play it for hours). Rolling Thunder is my favorite of the originals.
The controls are great and well thought out, it almost feels as if the games have been redesigned rather than just ported. I've had this game a year and a half at least and still play it often, you won't be disappointed.Get more detail about Namco Museum Battle Collection.

Lowest Price Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

KOTOR II and its predecessor are, without doubt, amongst the greatest games ever released on PC.

That said, as if releasing an unfinished game (KOTOR II has a lot of content in its code that didn't make it into the game due to a release window deadline) wasn't bad enough, the game has received NO support on Vista.

Buying this game, if you're running Vista, is without a doubt a gamble. Maybe you can run it. Maybe not. There are workarounds but with varied success on different computers.Get more detail about Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.

Discount Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is not for the faint of heart. It can be very difficult, especially the single-player, but also fun. The gist is you hunt monsters then create armor and weapons from parts of monster you've slain so you can fight more powerful monsters and repeat cycle. It's highly recommended you play with friends, because it's a little easier and a lot more fun, plus playing by yourself on this type of game is doing yourself a great disservice anyway. Single player is hard, freakin' hard, you'll find yourself being pestered by the regular enemies while you're busy with a boss, and the camera will become another enemy in itself, so yea you'll die what I like to call "cheap deaths". And while there is a comrade system, expect to go through a lot of felines before finding one that is actually helpful. It is sometimes aggravating to have to slay a boss 50 times just to complete their armor set, but a lot of them are just really cool, plus really helpful for stronger bosses. I'd say that if like this type of game you'll find enjoyment, but it is hard, so either be an experienced gamer or really patient.Get more detail about Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Buying Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

As an intermediate gamer, I have to say that this game is really good. For those of you that play Halo 3 ODST and Modern Warfare 2 all day, this may seem slightly boring. But for a relaxing -yet challenging- game, this is a great buy!
There are two difficulties on this game- Padawan and Master. I'm only on Padawan now, and it's not just a walk on the beach. It is easier than other games, however, because of the respawning system. Whenever you die, you simply respawn at the last checkpoint (there are no shortages of these). You do lose a significant amount of points, though, so you still have to be careful.
The storyline includes one of the best features of the game. Altough you can play the whole game on single-player, you will always have a partner Jedi to assist you. By default, it will be AI controlled. But at any desired time, another player can join and play as the second Jedi! The other great part about the storyline is that you can play as a variety of different Star Wars heroes (therefore the title, "Republic Heroes"). The storyline is divided up into missions, each with its own heroes. For example, you start off as Anikan with Ashoka, next you have Obi-wan with Klo, and later perhaps Windu with another Jedi. Some missions also use clone troopers, which are quite fun to battle with. And after each completed mission, autosave will save your progress.
If there are any downsides to this game, it would probably be the camera angles. They can be slightly frustrating at times, especially if you are trying to beat a mission with a partner. It is a third-person view, with no split-screen for two player mode. This is only a minor issue though, and does not take anything away from the overall quality of the game.
In summary, this is a great game if you are a Star Wars fan and/or if you enjoy destroying hordes of droids with a lightsaber. The graphics are great for the PS2, and the gameplay is fun and addictive.Get more detail about Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.

If you are like me who liked NFS Most Wanted, but thought that Carbon, Pro Street, and Shift were pretty weak you should like this one. You can fast travel to all the races and the racing is FUN. As others have said it is easier than most racers but I like that as I usually get about 75% into a racer and cant seem to finish the game.

I took a star off because the acting scenes aren't exactly high caliber, and the game does glitch for a second at times. Examples are the music will stop playing for a second, and graphics will pop-in at times instead of drawing in smoothly. Nothing too big but enough to be a small annoyance that could have been fixed. I don't know if the XBox or PC versions do this.Get more detail about Need for Speed: Undercover.

Cute concept, not that hard but my daughter is 6 and not reading enough to have fun with this game, and there is A LOT of reading. You basically can't do anything without reading the instructions they give you via conversations between Miley and her friends. I have to sit with my daughter whenever she wants to play. Age of Empires: Mythologies Decide Now

The AoE concept is excellent and the game is conceptually well designed, but the more I play the game the more I recognize design flaws. The scenarios and campaigns, for the most part, are rather easy--easier than "Kings" if I remember correctly. Once you play through those at the normal and hard levels, they aren't much fun to play again. So I turned my attention to the Skirmish games where I found the most challenges and enjoyment. Unfortunately, it only offers three player options (Romans, Egyptians and Norse), the heroes have only one innate power each and most or bland if not useless, and there are a very limited number of maps and the maps play by far the largest role in gameplay. If this game had a "random map" feature like Civ, I could play it endlessly (like I do Civ). But it doesn't.

Regarding the design flaws, I've found that in the Skirmish maps, Norse computer opponents are unable to properly advance so they are cannon fodder, which leaves you only Greeks and Egyptians as meaningful foes and thus not much variety, especially when you are playing Greek or Egyptian. (Combined with the limited maps, the skirmish games go from being the best feature to the worst.) Also, the scoring system and accompanying graphics seem to confuse itself frequently so often you invest time in a long, hard-fought battle only to find yourself with a score of -36428. If they'd include perhaps one more player option, an option for random maps, and cleaned up those two design issues I would have given this game a SIX. As it is, I give it a four for gameplay and a three overall because I got bored with it far sooner than I should have.Get more detail about Age of Empires: Mythologies.

Lovely Lisa Right now

This is, by far, my 8 year old daughter's favorite DS game (and with 3 DS-using kids in the house, we have dozens of different games). She absolutely loses herself in this game and thoroughly enjoys every activity. She is probably most proud of the table etiquette she has learned and was happy to share those lessons with the entire family at Thanksgiving dinner!

It was very immersive and I love being drawn into, not just the excitement on the screen, but the drama of the story (like Halo for example). Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers in spades. Discount Aion: The Tower of Eternity Steelbook Edition

Over the years I have played many MMOs, Aion impressed me in a very positive way for the first ten levels of my character's existence. The quests had a good flow, nice story, and overall you felt as if your character had some kind of meaning; this really drove the game on and was fun. As the game progressed into the levels 11-20 that feeling wore away to feeling like you were just grinding for the next level. Most of the loot in the game is found either through crafting or relatively rare world drops. I kept playing on because I wanted to get to the Abyss, try my hand at pvping, and hopefully the game would pick up. And it did...kinda.

After getting into the Abyss and leveling a bit in there it was fun again, but after 10 levels (now about level 35-36) it has gotten rather stale. My character is level 45 and I have not logged into my account in well over a week. The game started out with a huge bang but it quickly fizzled.

NCSoft has attempted to keep player retention up by offering freebies on the monthly anniversaries, while this is a nice gesture, I would have preferred more content and quests. I found that at some levels I would run out of "do-able" quests mid-way and would have to mindlessly grind away the rest of the level on trash mobs and jumping players.

Also, this is a personal gripe, the inability to fly freely everywhere is really annoying. I literally spent most of my time trekking on foot for long distances, and it was just a drag.Get more detail about Aion: The Tower of Eternity Steelbook Edition.

THE DRM

I won't comment much on the DRM because, as a Software Engineer, I understand the plight of publishers all too well... It's fine if you have an issue with their license enforcement, don't buy the game... But I don't personally care too much. I bought the game for my own use and none of their copy protection methods inconvenienced me in the slightest.

THE STABILITY

Installed and ran through the first time without any issues at all. Ran on a fairly pedestrian laptop (Intel C2D 2.66, 4 GB RAM, nVidia 9650GT mobile) on max settings without any hesitation, crashes, ghosting... Nada. Full stars in this category.

AUDIO / VIDEO

I thought the graphics were decent; Nothing to write home about, but solid enough not to complain. The sound was quite good, right down to an excellent antique soundtrack that contrasted with the mood of the game quite well. A half-star shy in this category.

GAMEPLAY

I had some initial trouble with the weapon / plasmid switching and keeping up with the foes, so I ran through it the first time on Easy. Now working on Medium. (Easy lives up to its name - I didn't die once.) I made liberal use of [Shift] in order to change weapons and plasmids. This ended up being my MO throughout - especially in the middle of combat. Had to get used to the different ammo types too - awkward but fine once I became accustomed. Overall, a star shy in this category just for the learning curve being so goofy.

STORY

In no way or category could the creators have been more draconian, unoriginal, or unimaginative than in the storyboarding process... When they came away with such a trite and heavy handed result, they should have fired their writers and restarted the process from scratch. A good story is the EASIEST part of creating a game and there's just no excuse for screwing it up.

I saw the "twists" coming from a mile away... Given the strict linear style of the game (not a problem if done right), I was forced to march directly down their idiotic (to the point of being insulting) predefined path. My reward? The NPCs mock me for being so dense... Right... *eye roll*

In any case, I suspect folks who enjoy the uber-simple and melodramatic plotlines of comic books will like this story just fine. If you're like me, however, and really detest having stupid crap crammed down your throat, you'll choke on this one for sure. Drama doesn't suffice for intelligence.

For my purposes, the story was an epic fail with the ONLY saving grace being that the intricate knotwork of interesting NPCs with intersecting storylines made it semi-tolerable. That bumps this category from ZERO stars to one.

OVERALL

Not a bad pick from the bargain bin if you're willing to endure a plot apparently written by the janitor. If I had paid full price for this when it first came out, I'd be LIVID.Get more detail about BioShock.

Purchase Monopoly

I've read several reviews with mistaken details about the game. These are answers that i would have liked before i bought the game.
First of all, you CAN play up to 4 people with just one controller. You have that option in the menu. You simply pass the one controller to the next players. I almost bought 2 more controllers because i wanted 4 people to be able to play. I'm glad i waited.
Also, another reviewer wrote he was annoyed that if you played a one-player game, you had to play against 3 CPU opponents. In other words, each game had to have 4 players, whether they were CPU or a real person. That's not true either. If you want to play a 1-player game, you can cancel CPU players 3 and 4 and just play with one CPU opponent.
As far as fun, i give this game 3 stars. I find that the game rolling the dice for you takes a lot of fun out of the game. In the board game, you control your roll. Sure, it's random, but least it's you who threw the dice. In this game, you hit X. As i was playing, i was imagining that my friends would rather play the board game. BUT, it's too soon to tell. I will try it out on them and check out their reaction.
Graphics are good and the game boards are pretty cool. It's just not the "party" game i thought it would be.Get more detail about Monopoly.

I bought this game for my son and have to say it was a mistake. Neither my son nor I like this game set. The graphics are poor and the game play is very bad. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Top Quality

So, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is a game that looked good because of all the 5/4 star reviews it kept getting here. I decided to buy it and have some fun.

I should have gone with my first impressions of the game and returned it.

At first I hated it. It was frustrating and way too simple. It got better, with better designed demons in the Fusion option and an interesting storyline. It scopes 7 long days where the player eats away 30 minutes with every action they decide to take.

The story takes a long time to pick up, and once I got to that point, the battles where so repetitive that I just started skipping them for the story, even though I didn't want to, I just couldn't stand another 30-45 minute battle!

And the totally anti-Christian message is far more extreme that I expected.

I've only been able to unlock 5 playable characters at any time. How boring.

In battle, you choose from a limited range where you want to move, then the enemy moves, then you, on and on, then you fight. This was one of the lamest things for me; the enemy sprites don't even move when they attack!!! On the actual movement field, a very simple 3D sprite bobs up and down and moves forwards backwards, left or right. But in the actual combat, all the little pictures of the enemies do is come forward quickly or recede. It is so lame. You can't even see your characters, just the enemy art in front of you.

There is no exploration, anyone hoping for a good-looking walk-around game (from the 3D screenshots Amazon provided) will be SO disappointed.

I gave this game 1 star because the battles just plain kill it with boredom.Get more detail about Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice Immediately

Title is a summary of it all, but here's the detail. This will mostly be comparing it to the other two games, rather than about Disgaea 3 itself much.

Disgaea: Hour/Afternoon of Darkness is absolutely one of the best strategy RPGs ever created. It's got a great storyline, great characters, fun battles and is hilarious as all Hell. The only other Nippon Ichi game that I'd say is close to how funny it is (and maybe even more) is Makai Kingdom.

Disgaea 2, however, strayed from this path and attempted to be more serious. While it did make some upgrades to the battle system, it almost entirely ditched the humor aspect of Disgaea 1 and made me sit there and wait during the entire game for the good jokes to pop up, my expectations having been set from Disgaea 1. Now, that's not to say I dislike serious games, Phantom Brave is yet another one of the greatest strategy RPGs made and also probably one of my top 20 favorite games, but Phantom Brave was its own game series. It'd be like if Terminator 1 was the slasher/horror flick that it is, but then 2 starred Will Ferrel and was a comedy. It just completely changes the atmosphere of the game, it's uncalled for, it's out of place.

Even if you take the title of Disgaea 2 off and name is something else, I still feel D2 is rather mediocre. It does add a bit more to the battles, but the characters and story, to me, are pretty bland. I was honestly quite bored with the game the entire time. It's a decent game, I had fun moments in it and it's not completely devoid of humor or style, but it's really just an average game.

Disgaea 3, however, goes right back to the roots, as if they realized the mistake they made with the second. It goes back to being a humorous game with nonsensical plot devices. That was the magic of Disgaea 1. It surprises you by ending up actually having deep characters who are more serious than what the game starts it all out to be. They actually care, have feelings, love, hate, cry and it's unexpected since in the beginning, it's a comedy where nothing matters. Mao even looks almost identical to Laharl. The game isn't QUITE as funny as Disgaea 1 and it's somewhat easy to see how the story plans to unfold, since it follows a very similar path as the first game, so while it's much better than the second, it does fall short of being as good as the first, mostly due to a slight lack of originality.

The last note about D3 has to be about the graphics. It's both good and bad that it's the same engine as the PS2 games. Since it looks the same, you could say it's good for being nostaligc. Plus, it's a comedy game, it's supposed to be cartoony. It just wouldn't come off the same if it had graphics on the same level as Killzone 2. However, at the same time, they could have upped the graphics a LITTLE and still have it mostly be a cartoony sprite style. It is on the PS3, after all. Might as well put it to good use, you know?

Now, about the actual game itself, rather than comparing. Disgaea 3 has excellent gameplay and characters. The story is a bit cheesy, but still entertaining, especially with Disgaea's setting. It's a great game, there's not much else to say other than to rant on about how much I love it, so instead I'll say what I really hate about it, the huge flaws.

One is the camera. There's three view modes: zoomed in, normal and overhead. Zoomed in has no purpose, it just makes the low-resolution sprite graphics incredibly jaggy and it's annoying that the default view in towns is zoom (yes, you can zoom out and make the graphics look like they're not trash)! Overhead view is useful for seeing around more corners so you don't have to keep turning the camera in circles, but whenever you try to do anything while in overhead (attack, use an item, end turn), you will have to press X twice instead of once, the first time sets the camera back into zoom, whereas if you're in zoom or normal camera view, you only need to press it once. After that, if you need to see in overhead again, you must press L2 twice again, so it becomes annoying to have to keep pressing L2, L2, X, X just to do ONE thing, repeatedly over and over. The camera also zooms in every time during an attack animation, making it bit annoying having to see those pixellated PS2-port graphics every attack.

Another thing is the absurd number of unnecessary monsters in every fight. For example, there is a boss named Prinny Mask, who himself states, "I am anti-social." However, in the actual fight with him, he's on a map with twenty or so other enemies. What is an anti-social person doing with almost two dozen allies on the map? And this happens in every single fight in the game. Every fight. Even the last fight in the game, with the cutscene showing just you and the boss, suddenly he has four other allies on the map, with no explanation for them. Sometimes, just you versus the boss is okay. That's right, NIS, you don't have to dump a load of monsters on every map for people to have a challenge, or to have fun. Lastly, this is worsened through the fact that every map must be totally cleaned of enemies before you can continue. You can't win by simply defeating the main enemy on the map.

The final annoyance with this game is that as it progresses, map puzzles become more and more frequent. My favorite levels are the small maps with just you, the enemy and nothing but bashing each other. I like getting to the point of things and doing the dirty work of punching one another's lights out, not dealing with dumb puzzles to disable enemy invincibility, or to cause all spellcasters on the map to be silenced and to not do those puzzles renders the map unplayable. It'd be okay and even fun if it was just a few maps, but midway through the game, this will become extremely annoying and repetitive when every map has some ridiculous enemy buff that you have to work around with a puzzle (specifically, it's with the geo blocks in the game, for anyone wondering what I mean by puzzles).

Despite those flaws, I highly recommend Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. Overall, it's an incredibly excellent game. Everyone who likes RPGs and owns a PS3 has *NO* excuse to not own this.Get more detail about Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice.
